With a 100m in Terra Sarda, Sardinia, concluded in 10.15 for a second place Justin Gatlin is getting close to the sub-10 we know he should be running soon; and with a 20.63 win over 200m to beat Oral Thompson of Jamaica.

Gatlin is showing that even though consigned to small meets, he is letting his on-track performance do the talking; it's a long way to London though.

Is Usain Bolt a US$ 32 million dollar man ?
General > News
Press reports have suggested that Usain Bolt has renewed his contact with Puma in what's thought to be the biggest deal in track & field history.

Some reports say the deal is equal in dollar terms to the four year deal Christian Ronaldo signed with Nike ... But is it a four year deal or has Bolt signed more of his life away?

With the London Olympic Games coming plus given the youth of Bolt allowing him to compete in at least three more sets games and World Championships at the top level Puma may have taken him on for life!

thinking what may happen if he steps up to 400m in a few years - if Puma have secured Bolt for life it may be the biggest bargain in sports history to have secured the fastest man in the world for the next decade

fastest 100m of 2010 so far

Tyson Gay flew home in 9.78 seconds recording the fastest 100m of 2010 at the Diamond League event at Crystal Palace in London; and that's on top of the 9.84 he ran in Stockholm the previous week.

With Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell missing it may have seemed a hollow victory, however it shows a return to form for Gay as Yohan Blake and Richard Thompson trailed home in 9.89 and 10.05 respectively.

Gay is still suffering from injury problems that have surfaced repeatedly "I was hobbling a bit at the end - my groin is a little sore, but I'm sure it's OK" he said.

Why is Bolt out?
General > News
A "back problem" has been stated as taking Usain Bolt out of competition at the 100m and 200m distance for the rest of the season. The Puma athlete has dominated the distance after his 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medal and 2009 World Championship performances.

The defeat by Tyson Gay in Stockholm over 100m must have come as a shock to Bolt. Meanwhile American Justin Gatlin is quietly seeking out competitive runs; London is a long way away right now and the 100m distance is already looking like it will be the most hotly contested race in years.

Gatlin runs first 200m of road to London
General > News
With a 10.34 heat and a 10.24 final Justin Gatlin took his first strides in competition since 2006 and at 28 years old he has time on his side over the 100m; just. He was trailed home by two other good Americans, J-Mee Samuels 10.31 and Rubin Williams 10.54.

Gatlin has reportedly found invitations to top European meets hard to come by, so the Kuldlilga meeting in Rakvere, Estonia was chosen; his next stop is Tallinn on August 8.

".......I am ready to go and run and compete....." said Gatlin after spending four years out of competition due to a ban.

Gatlin should be running sub 10 seconds very soon and given his race experience is a serious contender for the top of the 100m pack. If he can remain injury free and find his true form this comeback story could end with a medal in 2012 for the 2004 Olympic 100m champion.
